"Joy Williams is a refreshing debut from a promising talent." -- CCM Magazine Type: Pop Album: Joy Williams (2001) Joy Williams CD Review:
The album covers a wide variety of contemporary styles, from urban-flavored dance beats to heart-tugging ballads; imagine a cross between Stacie Orrico, Rachael Lampa and Jessica Simpson. Yet Williams appears equally adept at all the styles, and the production by Dan Muckala (Point of Grace, Mandy Moore) and Dennis Patton (Aaron Neville, Michael W. Smith) keeps things lively and interesting throughout. "I Believe in You," the album’s first Adult Contemporary single, is a fine example of Williams’ show-stopping vocal ability, while "Touch of Faith" breezes along on a killer hook that stays in the head for days. Those who would dismiss Williams (who recently graduated from high school) as just jumping on the bandwagon of Christian music’s teen craze ought to listen closely to the lyrics of "Serious," in which Williams sings: "I’m serious about the talk I’m talking/The evidence is in the walk I’m walking/Serious about love and purity/I’m serious as I can be."
